I was talking to a friend recently who complained about lack of privacy on her handheld device Blackberry to be precise. Then I promise to write on it.
Security on our mobile devices is a big issue that must be address in details. So without further ado I will let you in on how you can encrypt your files on your blackberry.
The OS Environment this post cover will be;
1. BlackBerry® Device Software
4.2 to 5.0
2. BlackBerry® 6
3. BlackBerry® 7
Follow these steps to completely encrypt files on a media
card inserted in the BlackBerry® smartphone:
Note: In order to encrypt files using the BlackBerry
smartphone password, verify that the password is set before beginning the steps
below.
On the
Home screen of the BlackBerry smartphone, click Options.
For
BlackBerry Device Software 4.2 to 4.5
1. Click Options.
2. Click Media
Card.
3. Set encryption method.
For
BlackBerry Device Software 5.0
1. Click Options.
2. Click Security
Options.
3. Click Encryption.
4. Set Encryption to Enable.
Note: To encrypt media
files such as videos, ring tones, pictures, and songs on the media card,
set Include
Media Files to Yes.
For
BlackBerry® 6 and BlackBerry® 7
1. Click Options.
2. Click Security.
3. Click Encryption.
4. Click the check box
labeled Encrypt to see the Media Card options.
Note: To encrypt media
files such as videos, ring tones, pictures, and songs on the media card,
set Encrypt
Media Files to Yes.
Use one of the following methods to encrypt files:

1. To encrypt files using an encryption key for a media card
generated by the BlackBerry smartphone, set the Encryption Mode or Mode field to Device Key.
2. To encrypt files using the
BlackBerry smartphone password, set the Encryption
Mode or Mode field to Security
Password or Device
Password.
3. To encrypt files using an
encryption key for a media card and the BlackBerry smartphone password, set the
Encryption Mode or Mode field to Security Password & Device Key or Device
Password & Device Key.
Note: To turn off
encryption for a media card, set the Encryption Mode or Mode field
to None.
1. Press the Menu
key.
2. Click Save.
